Sweet Sixteen

Happy Birthday Jared!

It seems like just yesterday you
were this sweet baby.

Or this irresistibly adorable three year old.

Where did all those years go?

I am certainly grateful
these days are over.

Glad sixteen looks to be
so much better than
fourteen was.

Wow, what a handsome kid!
Since I'm new to finding you, I have no idea what 14 was all about, but it looks like a VERY difficult time.

Ya, those years, they do fly. My baby is 18.....boo.

Shauna, how fun that you remember that day. It doesn't seem that long ago, and yet it does. Do you know what I mean?

T well fasten your seat belt, it will be here before you know it.

Tauna, If you really wanted to know about it you could read this post: hammondshamsterwheel.blogspot.com/2008/12/epic-tale-of-hipstoric-proportions.html

I am not sure if that link will even work.

Long story short, Jared got a staph infection that was not diagnosed until he went into septic shock. Blood pressure 60/40 when we first got to urgent care. 10 days on the ventilator, 18 days in PICU, 25 days in the hospital, 5 surguries. July 08 was one for the books. The infection was in his hip and ate away all the cartilage, so 11/08 he received a total hip replacement. All in all the recovery process is still going on. He missed his whole 9th grade of school. He still has a small limp. But every day he is closer to what ever "normal" should be.

Happy Birthday to your sweet boy who has endured more than any 16 year old should. Hopefully these life lessons will prepare him for a bright and wonderful future. You have certainly contributed to him being the best he can be

Aw, ain't it just the truth! It's a shot to the heart to think back on those sweet, innocent days back when they were babes that we thought would never grow up. SIGH! He's a very handsome 16 year old. I didn't realize how CLOSE in age he was to my rockstar daughter. In October we can arrange their marriage, you know.

So how is he? How is his leg? Do tell. And do tell, how is your mother. Is she still fighting her breast cancer? Or did she kick it? Kritta is almost done with the magic quilt. I am so so deeply sorry we have taken so long.

What a handsome young man I love that toddler picture of him!

He's still handsome but the toddlers pull at me "aww shucks" heart strings! So cute.

I hope also that his 16 year is better then year 14!

I want to know answers to Kritta's questions also!

Happy Birthday! I hope you all have a wonderful day, with no more year 14! Is he taking his driving test soon?

It's been so long since I have actually seen you guys--it's that 3 year old picture that looks the most familiar to me. Cute baby, adorable toddler and handsome 16 year old. Happy Birthday. :o)

Crash, he is doing pretty well. He still has a small limp and I think his leg hurts but he doesn't mention it much. It has taken awhile for him to get back into the swing of school, as in three quarters, but it looks like he may be back to his old straight A ways. He has at least passed everything this year, which is huge. D for diploma is my mantra now.

My mom has kicked breast cancer. She finished her last treatment last month. She is still tired but so far so good. Strange to remember how scary it all was and how now a year later things have worked out as well as they have. I keep thinking I am rather ungrateful to have not written a post stating all the good news, but still I haven't managed to make it happen. Perhaps I should look to it.

So bottom line, everything is for the best and couldn't possible be any better. Thanks for your concern. I hope the same will be said for your nephew.

It is strange how when we are in the middle of raising them it seems like a day can last forever. Then we look back and it seems to have passed so quickly. My youngest is working on his papers for his mission! I know I am not that old!
