A New Life Experience

A couple of weeks ago, I went to my mailbox, and what did I see? A letter from the IRS staring at me. Yes, people, I can now add "Audited by the IRS" to my list of life experiences I could do without.

Of course this came in the middle of all my crazy working weeks. So I just decided to stay in denial and put it to the side.

Today, it has finally made it to the top of my "Things to have a nervous break down over today" list. So I thought I would blog about it.

Another time, the chance to blog about something is the only good thing you have to say about it. Because sitting here at my computer blogging, is so much more productive than say gathering my supporting documentation in order, don't ya think? It's all about priorities, right?

And proving once again that no good deed goes unpunished, the category they have chosen to audit is my charitable contributions for 2007. If I read the paperwork correctly, I have to get copies of all my checks for supporting back up.

The date of my audit is August 12th at 8:00 AM. Are these people saddists or what? Way to ruin my summer vacation. And the letter says to be prepared to be there/be tortured for four hours. Good night nurse! What could they possibly talk to/grill me about for four hours. That is a ways away, but I have plans to be out of town for 10 days in the next two weeks. This weekend to attend a family reunion in Preston Idaho and the next to attend a nephew's baptism in Arizona.

So I better stop typing and get to working on that little project. My husband is a bit of a doomsdayer and he is sure we will loose all we own from penalties. If I go to jail for tax evasion, could someone please send me a cake with a file in it or at the very least a lap top with an Internet card. Think of the possibilities for blogging from jail. Hmmmm. Another time blogging can make the best of a worst case scenario.

Sadly, I am not going to be at the reunion. Have a good time for me! And good luck with the IRS. Yuck.

I absolutely LOVE the labels you put on this post: adversity, inconceivable, near death experiences, opportunities for growth, things that suck.

Kind of sums up your year!! May your humor bring you through this too :)

OMGOSH! I would love to blog from jail. Pat, let's ask if we can be roomates!

I just watched a story on the plane. A guy made a dental floss ladder to escape from jail. He hit 50 lbs of dental floss in his T.V.

I'll get right on that.

Good luck with tamn audit. Hope you don't get busted for helping out the needy.

just think of this as a chance to flaunt ur rightousness. Too bad the whole ward won't be there to see it.

Good luck! So sad I won't be seeing u for a while. Perhaps we better plan another night out where we can play with beads, eat ice cream, make tissue paper flowers, and eat pizza.

I know, Right before u go to prison. It'll be a going away partay!

audits SuCK! actually - our "audit" was just a letter pointing out an honest mistake and charging us $600 for their efforts... over the $50 mistake... IRS is a bad word around here - another reason I will never again do my own taxes.

and I would SO read you from jail - I'd love to see what the other jail-birds thought of your nutty self :)

Love how you're making a great blog post out of something so crappy. I'll be thinking of you on the 12th. That's my husband's birthday, by the way.

Lucky you :(
I love baking and I'm sure I need a little added iron in my diet, so I'll start working out the recipes right away.

Do you even get checks back any more? Seriously. The IRS needs to keep up with the program. All is safely kept by the bank in cyberspace until a hacker guesses their password. SHEEEESH!

Good luck with that!

Ummmm are we still on for lunch tomorrow?

April, I hope we are on for lunch. I left you a message on your cell. If we don't talk tonight, I will call you in the morning.

And don't ya think the fact that they are auditing me for my charity proves that no good deed goes unpunished.

Emily, I will miss you especially at the reunion.

Val, thanks for noticing the labels. I thought they were pretty funny myself.

Crash, if we were to go to jail togehter, I am pretty sure we could raise enough cain to get our selves kicked out of there.

T- this is not good news at all. I have already figured out that I accidentally deducted what I paid for scout camp. Ooops. I guess I better start saving for the $600 fine.

Melanie, I am totally putting you in charge of the pre-prison partay.

Hey Alyson, long time no hear.

Shawna- I know with you on the job I will be well taken care of.

April - I will have to pay my bank $5 for each copy of a canceled check because you are right they do not send those back anymore.

Hey did you call DAD? He has been audited more times than I can remember and he always gets an extra refund. Just remember that you are tougher than they are cuz you are a MOM!

Everyone I've ever known who has been audited said it was much painless than they thought...but these were usually small business owners.

good luck! That is one of my biggest fears since I do the taxes every year! I think your stories from jail would be very entertaining!! But, I am sure you won't be heading there unless you have been hiding millions of dollars somewhere...
