Plum lucky!

When we moved to our new house, this tree was already growing in our back yard. The house had been advertised as having fruit trees, and it does have a pomegranate so does that count? But this year apparently we have a plum tree as well. I have not ever seen fruit on this tree before. I would love to know what happened this year to produce such a bumper crop. Anyway I need to pick these before the birds eat them all.
